Before we get into the details, just remember, for this article, we’ll be looking at what a four-person household might be expected to pay with either of these providers. So with that out of the way, let’s start with NSW. If you switch from Simply Plus to the AGL Residential Essentials Plus, you could save nearly $60!
Meanwhile, in Queensland, the savings dry up, unfortunately. Making the change from Simply Plus to the AGL Residential Essentials Plus would save you nearly $130.

Sometimes there’s more to picking which electricity provider you go with than just what they’re charging. Customer service should be something you’re considering. So that’s why in this second section, we’ll be looking at just that.
Think about what you’d really want if you had issues with paying your bill. Perhaps you’d want some other payment options or a call centre staffed by considerate and understanding reps? Being with an electricity provider that’s really concerned about their customers can really be a major relief.
So let’s take a moment and check out what Simply Energy and AGL have on offer in terms of customer service.

Firstly they picked up an award for their service in SA, specifically as a natural gas provider. Fast forward a year and Simply Energy was among the awards again, scoring a Most Satisfied Customers in SA award for electricity, and defending their natural gas provider crown.
In 2018 they expanded their successes, winning a national award as a dual fuel provider for Most Satisfied Customers nationwide. Another important component of customer service is how they let you pay your bill. It’s always great to know that you’ve got options.
Your options include standard options like direct debit, or you can pay online or via BPay, you can use a credit or PayPal as well. If you’re old fashioned you can also go down to pay your bill in person at any Australian post office. Simply also accepts Australia Post Payment Cards!
AGL also has a rewards system, through its rewards shop. By being an AGL customer you can grab discounts on all manner of products, from movie tickets to fine dining. AGL offers its customers a number of options to pay their bills.
They strongly encourage their customers to pay online, through the My Account function on their website. Through this system, you can access a variety of different ways to settle your account. These options include SMS Pay, access to bill smoothing, bank payments and direct debit.
Taking advantage of something like bill smoothing is a great way to ensure you don’t get as many nasty surprises in your bill. You can also go the email route, with email billing available in place of paper bills.
Like most other retailers there is a raft of traditional payments options on offer from AGL. That includes paying through the mail, or in person at any post office.
