Simply Energy vs Origin Energy Renewables
A retailer’s support for renewable energy has become a hot topic lately. Certain retailers are making a concerted effort to go ‘greener’. In many cases, energy customers consider this to be one of the main factors when it comes down to choosing a provider, which is why we’ve detailed Origin Energy and Simply Energy’s support for renewable energy.
Origin Energy and Simply Energy recently participated in a study that measured their efforts toward sustainability and support for renewable energy. The data shown below was pulled from the 2020 Green Electricity Guide (GEG) by Greenpeace.
Origin Energy and Simply Energy scored relatively high in their overall support for renewable energy, with Origin scoring an 8 out of 10 and Simply scoring an 8.6 out of 10.
However, Origin Energy dropped the ball in nearly every other category outside of renewable energy support and marketing transparency with multiple zeroes across the board.
Outside of support for new renewable energy, Simply Energy underperformed in every category except pollution & environmental harm which has them listed at an average 5 out of 10.
According to Greenpeace, Origin Energy is the 4th biggest climate polluter in Australia due to burning activities and gas extraction. Origin’s large Eraring coal-burning power station, located in New South Wales, also contributes to the amount of pollution emitted.
The overall rating given by the Green Energy Guide has Origin Energy listed at a lowly 1.6 out of 10 and Simply Energy at an underwhelming 2.59 out of 10.
