Dodo Power & Gas Review

Gauging the Australian energy market for a retailer that can provide competitive pricing on top of exceptional service can be frustrating and time-consuming. Electricity Monster can help alleviate any concerns you may have which is why we created this detailed review of Dodo Power & Gas so you can make an informed decision that caters to your personal needs.

Dodo Power & Gas, a division of Dodo, is a multi-utility company who entered the energy retail scene back in 2010. Their no-frills approach to offering practical solutions for homeowners and businesses alike has further cemented their stake in the current energy retail market. Instead of diminishing its value in favor of expensive, multi-layered power plans, Dodo opted for a basic electricity and gas plan for customers in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and South Australia.

Dodo Power & Gas offers a competitively priced energy plan with no lock-in contracts, no exit fees, and the option to bundle electricity with internet, phone, and gas. It is important to note that tariffs and special pricing offers can vary depending on your location and type of plan chosen. Examples of region-specific plans include: Residential Market, Standing Offer, and Victorian Default Offer.

The terms of each plan and extra discounts offered are subject to change so make sure to review the details before signing up.

Saving With Dodo Power & Gas

It is important to take advantage of every energy-saving opportunity before committing yourself to the retailer of your choice. This also pertains to your home or business’s energy usage and whether the plan you are currently interested in is tailored to your needs. One important factor you may want to consider is your overall energy consumption.

For example, low electricity usage can fall under a solo person who uses energy mostly on the weekends and at night, while high electricity usage is more common for commercial properties and large families who use more energy-demanding appliances on a regular basis. Depending on your state, Dodo may offer flexible time-of-use tariffs that can also be financially beneficial including: peak, off-peak, and shoulder.

Moving With Dodo Power & Gas

Dodo offers current energy and gas customers assistance with their move. By reaching out to Dodo customer service, you can plan ahead by choosing your reconnection and disconnection dates. Depending on the location you are moving to, and more importantly whether Dodo services the region, your current rate and plan may change. Installation can vary based on availability and will generally take about 3 to 4 business days. Urgent connection may be available, though this will likely incur additional charges.

Dodo Gas Plans

Available in Victoria and New South Wales, Dodo offers natural gas plans that include step-down supply charges for customers that need to use gas at a higher rate. Residential customers can also bundle their electricity and gas, along with other services, to make for a convenient plan that is easier to track while saving money.

Tariffs may be available for gas customers that are eligible and are categorized in a much simpler fashion than those associated with electricity plans. However, energy retailers can charge tariff blocks that vary based on different factors. For example, a higher tariff block might be introduced when there is a higher demand for gas.

Does Dodo Energy Offer Solar?

In the table provided, you will find a breakdown of the solar feed-in tariff rates that Dodo offers in Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia.

How Green is Dodo Energy?

To provide you with insight on how ‘green' Dodo really is when compared to other energy companies in the Australian electricity market, we have compiled raw data drawn from the report “Alviss Consulting, 2018 Green Electricity Guide Methodology” so you can decide if Dodo Power & Gas is right for you.

Measured on a 0 to 10 scale with 0 being the worst, Dodo received a score of 4.1 in terms of overall performance. While not necessarily terrible when compared to other energy suppliers, there are a few categories where Dodo can improve such as carbon offsets, energy efficiency and demand response/management, and support for green energy.

Dodo Power & Gas does offer Greenpower options in their energy plans albeit at a higher than average rate.

Dodo’s strengths lie in their equitable solar solutions alongside their corporate transparency and sustainability.

There is currently not enough data available to determine Dodo’s stance on fossil fuels.
