What Is This Rebate?
The energy crisis has increased the cost of living for Victorian households and has prompted the government to take action. The Victorian Government launched this initiative to encourage Victorians to compare energy plans on their Victorian Energy Compare Website to see if they can find a better deal and subsequently save money by doing so. This isn’t the first time the government has offered rebates. The federal budget $250 payment was another initiative launched to help pay for the increased costs of living.
How Can I Get This Energy Rebate?
It’s easy! Get your most recent residential energy bill and visit the Victorian Energy Compare website to submit your $250 energy rebate Victoria application form. You can also apply through a participating community outreach partner.
How Do I Know If I’m Eligible?
In order to qualify for this rebate, there are certain requirements that must be met, per the official Victorian Government website:
- The recipient must be a Victorian residential electricity consumer and have an active residential electricity account.
- The applicant must be the account holder.
- Only one rebate is available per household.
If you meet the criteria listed above, visit the Victorian Energy Compare website to register for the incentive. Be sure to have the following readily available to make the application process as easy as possible:
- Your recent electricity bill.
- ‘NMI’ number (this can be located on your electricity bill and is typically a 10 or 11 digit number).
- Further supporting documentation for identification such as: a Driver’s License, recent utility bill, Centrelink Card, etc.
Once you’ve submitted your application form, be sure to keep note of your reference number and your NMI as you may need it for future correspondence or questions about your application.
If your home is in an embedded network, you may be eligible pending you meet the requirements. According to the Victorian Government, you will need to upload a recent copy of the energy bill or invoice, which can be provided to you by your Embedded Network Manager.
Applications are open between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023.
Currently, there is no limit or cap on the number of payments during the entirety of the program, but only one payment will be sent per household.
