Today we’re going be doing a quick review of one of the biggest electricity and gas providers in the country, Alinta Energy. Over the years, Alinta Energy’s record of quality service at a competitive price has led them to grow to be the fourth biggest energy supplier in Australia.
So why has the provider grown so rapidly recently?
That’s exactly what we’re here to find out. We’re going to look at what they offer in terms of plans, how their customer service works, and take a quick look at any other factors. Once you’ve made your way through this review, you’ll have everything you need to know! After that give us a call, we’ll help you compare Alinta and many other energy providers, and see if we can get you a better deal.
For each section, we’ll be giving Alinta Energy a score out of 5 for different aspects of their service. These are based on our calculations of the average electricity bill in each major eastern state. We won’t just be sticking to price though, we’ll also be looking at what choice your provider gives you, and any extras they offer.
Overall we score Alinta like this:
Want to know how? Read on and get some hard facts and figures on Alinta Energy’s prices.
Firstly, we’re going to take a look at is what Alinta Energy charges it’s customers. This is because, for the past decade, Australian energy customers have been caught in the middle of a price crisis. We’ve seen prices skyrocket by over a hundred per cent1 in the past ten years, and there doesn’t seem to be much relief in sight. So it’s important to know what you’re getting into on a dollar amount basis.
Here’s what a four-person household could be expected to pay in a major city, in each state.
We’ll start off with New South Wales, Australia’s largest state and home to some of Australia’s largest energy bills. Alinta Energy isn’t one for offering a wide array of plans, they keep it simple – one plan, one rate. In the case of New South Wales, that plan is called: “Fair Deal 30”. Fair Deal 30 offers customers a nice 30% pay on time discount on your electricity usage charges. While the discount is based on paying on time, it’s massive, meaning you get rewarded for not being late on your bill!
Secondly, in Queensland, we’ve got more on offer from Alinta. Once again we have a singular plan with a competitive discount. Home SaverPlus 28 is the name of the plan, and it offers you a 28% discount. This is a Pay On Time discount on your electricity usage. 28% is pretty big for Queensland and is one of the biggest discounts on offer in the entire state! This could result in a massively reduced power bill for you and your family.
In Victoria, you’ve come to expect some massive discounts. The good news is that in Victoria, Alinta Energy competes with the best of them, sporting a 43% pay on time discount off your electricity usage. This is part of the Fair Deal 43 plan, one that might lead to a pretty low power bill.
Poor old South Australia has a raw deal on its energy for a while now. For the past few years, it’s been easily the most expensive state in Australia when it comes to electricity. Alinta Energy is looking to lessen the pain with Fair Deal 28. Fair Deal 28 offers a nice pay on time discount, 28%, and a reasonable usage charge given some of the prices on offer in SA.
That’s your power, what about your gas? Alinta Energy is a Dual Fuel provider, meaning they service your electricity and your gas. You might not have realized it, but getting a great deal on your gas is just as important as your electricity. So, we’re going to look at what Alinta Energy offers in NSW, Victoria and SA. Sorry Queenslanders, Alinta Energy does not offer a natural gas service in your state, so maybe skip this section.
First up again is NSW, and those looking for an affordable gas bill might want to consider Alinta. Their Fair Deal 30 plan doesn’t just come with a nice discount on your power, it also applies to your gas bill. Alinta Energy will offer you an 18% pay on time discount on your gas should you choose Fair Deal 30.
Next is Victoria with the Fair Deal 43 plan. In Victoria, gas is as much of a big part of your life as electricity. So it really pays to find yourself a great rate on your gas as well. Fair Deal 43 comes with a pay-on-time discount on your gas bill as well, 25%.
Down in South Australia, you can also get a competitive deal on your gas through Alinta Energy. If you sign up to Fair Saver 28, you can look forward to a 12% pay on time discount on your natural gas bill. While this might not seem the largest discount, but given the price of your electricity, that little bit extra could make a big difference.
Alinta Energy also offers energy solutions for businesses. If you’re a small business, you can find out more about what they have on offer on their website. These plans generally offer a sizeable discount and low rates. In NSW, Corporate Saver 20, offers a guaranteed discount of 20% on your electricity usage charges. Meanwhile, In Victoria, your business can get Corporate Saver 25, which gives you a huge 25% guaranteed discount on your electricity usage. Corporate Saver 25 is back in South Australia as well, where you can also get a guaranteed 25% discount on your bill. 25% is a very high discount for South Australia, regardless of whether it’s for residential or business electricity. Meanwhile, in Queensland, you can get Business SaverPlus 20 which offers a 20% pay on time discount.
Beyond just price and service, Alinta Energy has become an ever more recognisable brand. And part of this has been their swelling market share, but it’s also down to their efforts to become more well known in Australia. As a result, Alinta Energy recently joined ranks with our cricket team. Alinta Energy is the Principal Partner to Australian men’s cricket team and a Platinum Partner to Cricket Australia.
So maybe cricket isn’t your bag, but maybe charity is? Alinta Energy recently became involved with the Salvation Army. To celebrate reaching a million customers nationwide, Alinta Energy donated $100,000 to their cause in 2018. There’s also Alinta Energy’s fantastic rewards programme.
